TEAM LAURA - 2007

3 PEAKS YACHT RACE CHALLENGE

Team Laura Line up for 2007

This year we are fortunate to have a new crew member to raise the spirits of Team Laura. Ed Simmons will be putting his sailing expertise to good use as well as stretching his legs on Snowdon. Huw has succesfully managed to extricate himself from the list of possible runners. The rumour that Huw had fabricated the Force 11 forcast off the Mull of Galloway last year to avoid a trot up the Ben proved to be unfounded in the end. See picture below of navtec display, showing weather forcast as we reached the Mull of Galloway, prompting the decision to return to Whitehaven.:

Anyway, here is the full line up for this year:

Dave Lawrance - Crew and runner

Greatly looking forward to having the opportunity to re-unite with most of last years team to make amends for the weather-induced 2006 retirement. A keen rock climber and mountaineer/skier when holidays allow, I also make a token effort to keep up with my considerably faster-running wife! Hence being framed for heading up a couple of the peaks again this year.

Ed Simmons - Crew and runner

2007 is going to be my first time in the race! Predominantly a sailor with some experience of ‘racing around the cans’ and the odd delivery trip. I will also be dragging myself up (and down!) one of the peaks. Looking forward to some great sailing, great food from Huw, great banter with crew, and getting together with everyone.

Jeremy Stain - Crew and runner

After the unfinished business of the 2006 race, there wasn't much hesitation before committing to the 2007 race. Looking forward to getting back out on the water and on the hills and this year I'm hoping to finish the race, keep up with my running partner and get more than 2 hours sleep (in that order of importance!!)

Richard Stain - Skipper and runner

60 years old and director of Testconsult Ltd. Semi retired and has spent the last 6 years building Laura in his garden in Mobberly. This was meant to be a two year project but took a bit longer than expected!

Huw Williams - Co-Skipper and Crew

Hoping to maintain his non-runner status (don't let the picture fool you!) but aiming to make up for this with sailing ability gained from the odd RYA course, cruising around a bit in borrowed boats and serving up top notch grub to the racing whippets. Took part in the race in 2006 and was severely disappointed not to have finished. Determined to get to Fort Williams this year in good order.
